Himachal Pradesh is in the Himalayas, northern India. It has scenic mountain resorts and towns, Buddhist monasteries, and temples. The region is popular for skiing, climbing, and trekking. The name Himachal refers to Hima as snow and acal are the slopes and Pradesh refers to the state.

Himachal Pradesh is in the Asian subcontinent extreme northern part is bounded to the northwest by the union territory, Jammu and Kashmir, and to the northeast is another union territory, Ladakh, to the east is the Tibet Autonomous Region, and to the southeast are the Uttarakhand state, to the west is Punjab and to the south is Haryana. The scenic splendor of Himachal Pradesh presents lofty snow-clad mountains, large lakes, thickly forested valleys, cascading streams, and deep gorges.

Himachal Pradesh was formerly a union territory and became 1971 January the Indian state. It covers an area of 21,495 square miles. Hydroelectric power in India is significantly produced by Himachal Pradesh. Himachal also embarked on hydropower projects as a joint venture with the central government. 

Himachal Pradesh as of March 2022, has installed a total power generation capacity of 4,532 MW, comprising under private utilities 2,003.26 MW, (state utilities) 1,062.21 MW, and central utilities 1,466.53 MW. Himachal Pradesh is blessed naturally with rivers and plentiful streams that the hydropower potential is immense.

Agriculture is the main source of employment in Himachal Pradesh and nearly 89.96% of the population are surviving in rural areas. Himachal Pradesh now addresses the importance of the commercial crop and it has taken to growing ginger and potatoes, as an inclusion to off-season vegetables. There is a production increase of food grains due to the distribution of the high-yielding seeds to the farmers. The government envisaged hectares of the area before bringing it under plantation.

Himachal Pradesh people depend on pastoralism, agriculture, forestry, horticulture, and seasonal herding for their livelihood. The Himachal Pradesh government is encouraging the dispersal of manufacturing and is specializing in goods manufacturing.

For instance, agricultural implements, resin, and turpentine are under production in the Nahan town, while Solan has major manufacturers of fertilizer, tv sets, liquor, and beer.  Parwanoo is given to process fruits, manufacture electronics, and tractor parts and Rajban is handed to manage cement production. Shimla is in charge of manufacturing electrical goods, and from Barotiwala and Baddi hard-board and paper products come. Along with the heavier industry growth, small-scale manufacturing artisan-based units stay in operation all over Himachal Pradesh.

  • Himachal Pradesh is the fastest region in India in the pharmaceutical industry, announces the state government. The drug formulations exports include biologicals from the state and have millions of dollars as earned revenue.
  • There will be the longest tunnel connecting Ladakh- Zanskar Valley-Lahaul by 2025.
  • The tourism of Himachal Pradesh offers the GDP of the state around 7%. The inflow of domestic tourists has increased, and now the arrivals of foreign tourists have also leaped. Owing to this there is an increase in the number of registered hotels emerging in the state.
