INTRODUCTION

Vegetable oil and fat resources are indispensable to mankind as a source of nutrient and industrial raw materials. Crude vegetable oil obtained from various oil milling units is further refined before use for edible purposes. Refined edible oil is a process where free fatty acids are volatized, condensed and recovered simultaneously with vacuum de-colouring operation. Sometimes, refining process is limited to simple physical treatment such as heating and filtering in regard to refining of superior quality of crude oil. Generally, the cake in the oil is separated by centrifuge, decolouring by active clay and steam deodorization at high temperature in vacuum up to 5 mm. Hg.

Palm Kernel

The palm kernel is the edible seed of the oil palm fruit. The fruit yields two distinct oils: palm oil derived from the outer parts of the fruit, and palm kernel oil derived from the kernel. The pulp left after oil is rendered from the kernel is formed into "palm kernel cake", used either as high-protein feed for dairy cattle or burned in boilers to generate electricity for palm oil mills and surrounding villages.

Palm kernel oil, on the other hand, is taken from the kernels of the oleaginous seed. The palm oil is obtained by pressing the fruits in mills, which allows the palm oil to be obtained from the succulent mesocarps. Due to their high carotene content, both the fruits and the resulting oil have an orange-red color, which can nonetheless be removed through a refining process. The palm nuts, a by-product of the fruit oil pressing, remain undamaged throughout the pressing process of the palm fruit, despite the pressure. They must first be freed of the mesocarp fibers and of their shells, and then be dried until their residual moisture content is reduced to about 8% (the latter serving to prevent the formation of mold).  The prepared palm kernels are then fed into a mechanical press, producing high-quality press cakes and palm kernel oil.

Soyabean Seeds

Soybean is a species of legume native of the Eastern Asia, widely grown for its edible bean, which has numerous uses. For many centuries, it was the main source of food for the people of the Far East (China, Japan, India). The ability of soybean for the food and non-food uses has been recognized for many years. Among available protein sources of plant origin, soybean protein is the closest to the optimum dietary essential amino profiles for human and animal nutrition. Therefore, soybean production, consumer acceptance and consumption in non-traditional regions of the world are on the rise. Increasing world population, constant need for animal feed and numerous different soybean products contribute to the great demands for soybean seed in world market. Nowadays, soybean is the leading oil and protein crop, whose seed is used as a source of edible oil and protein for both human and livestock consumption and for various industrial purposes. Due to consumer’s large interest in healthy food, soybean is grown more and more frequently under the organic system in which it produces satisfactory yield.
