      I.V. FLUID MANUFACTURING UNIT
      [CODE NO.4074]

To start with, let us first understand the regulation of intravenous (IV) fluid. Intravenous fluid regulation has to do much with the control of the amount of fluid that is being received intravenously or via the bloodstream. This IV fluid is known to be administered via the intravenous line. The intravenous fluid is known to be administered for many different reasons. The rate of administration depends much on gravity alone.

The intravenous fluid flow is regulated manually or via the use of an electric pump. It is important to understand the regulation of the flow to ensure appropriate dosage as well as rate of flow and delivery. It is also important to understand the purpose of intravenous fluid regulation. Many reasons are to be known for fluids to be given at an intravenous level.

IV fluid is given for various reasons which are: (a) pain management, (b) cancer treatment via chemotherapy, (c) infection treatment via antibiotics, (d) rehydration after becoming much dehydrated. The IV fluids normally used for treatment consist of many medications, sugar, electrolytes, which are added in various different concentrations. When IV fluid is given to any individual, it is important to consider various factors such as age, medical condition, body size, and few more.

When IV fluid regulation is done, it ensures that appropriate amount of fluid drips are given through a bag at correct rate. When IV fluid regulation is too slow or too quick, many complications may arise thereafter. The intravenous fluid regulation can occur via manual way as well as via the use of an electric pump. For both these methods, it is important for the nurse to check the IV fluid intake at appropriate amounts.

When manual regulation is done, the nurse normally increases or decreases the pressure that is put on the intravenous tube through a clamp. The number of drops can be counted per minute to make any kind of adjustments that are otherwise required. The flow of IV fluid is also via the electric pump. Normally, the nurse programs the pump so that the right amount of fluid is administered in the patient’s body.

When a patient is given IV fluid, the doctor normally checks the amount as well as the rate t which it is administered. The skin over the injection site is normally disinfected by the nurse. Usually, the nurse locates the vein at the site and inserts a catheter. The catheter is normally inserted in and there should be no pain or just little pain. The administration of IV fluid is actually common and safe. At times, the flow is too slow or fast and it becomes important for the nurse to check the flow rate of the IV fluid. If there exist any symptoms such as trouble in breathing or headache, it is important to alert the patients right away. If the fluid intake is not in the right way, the patient might not just respond in the way that is expected out of him/her.
