INTRODUCTION

Air filters and filtration equipment are ubiquitous equipment used in diverse industries and fields, given the universal need to maintain particulate cleanliness to ensure efficient functioning of equipment/machinery and the growing pressure to improve urban and indoor air quality. From residential, commercial to industrial sectors, these equipments are widely used to filter and remove atmospheric particulate matter. In clean air applications, the growing media clamor over deteriorating indoor air quality, increasing incidences of allergic respiratory disorders and growing threat of airborne infectious diseases, is triggering increased demand for air filtration and air cleaning devices. Stricter Clean Air Laws against a backdrop of rising concerns over environmental pollution and public health is also positively impacting demand. For instance, strict emission norms is driving up demand for automotive filters by bringing auto OEMs under pressure to produce vehicles with lower emission rates. The scenario is creating strong demand for filters engineered to reduce soot emissions.

Manufacturing industries are also coming under the environmental yoke to reduce industrial emissions which in turn is driving demand for end-of-pipe air pollution control equipment. The scenario creates a fertile environment for the growth of fabric filters and electrostatic air filters, among others. Growing focus on equipment efficiency and maintenance in manufacturing plants is throwing the spotlight on the importance of ensuring particulate cleanliness in air intake systems. For instance, to ensure peak performance of machines and their operational durability, intake air must be optimally cleaned to prevent damage to equipment caused by erosion fouling and corrosion of system components. In this regard, demand for air intake filters and filtration systems, is growing.

Global growth will also be driven by technology innovations spurred by stringent environmental and product purity regulations and laws implemented across all major end-use sectors such as refineries, petrochemical plants, paper and pulp manufacturing plants, steel mills and chemical plants. Product innovations, in the upcoming years, will revolve around performance and recyclability. Environmentally safe products with energy saving, reduced pressure loss, and waste reduction benefits will witness the highest gains. In order to reduce wastes, re-use and recycling, miniaturization, service life extension, and reduction of volume are being actively pursued in the field of air filters manufacturing. Growth in the air filters and filtration equipment market will also be spurred by developing countries where GDP growth is rapidly outpacing growth in mature markets such as US, European, and Japan. Emerging markets that are strengthening their presence in the world air filter industry include China, India, Russia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Turkey. Product sales in emerging nations will be spurred by healthy economic growth, increasing per capita incomes, and rising industrialization efforts, which will fortify manufacturing output, spending on building construction, and ICE (internal combustion engine) and motor vehicle/motorcycle ownership levels.
