For example, the syringes are used for the injection of insulin in a diabetic person as well as for administering local anesthesia by a dentist (before drilling or pulling teeth). The disposable syringes are also used for drawing blood samples. The healthcare professionals are known to use the largest number of syringes in the medical industry. Many drug addicts also use the disposable syringes for their increased consumption of drugs.

The rising life expectancies of the elderly population has led to increased demand of the healthcar e services and greater need for drugs to the injected. Also, it needs to be well understood that with the increase of population in our country, the requirement of injections and medicines have also increased. The national immunization policy has adopted the self-breaking and non-reusable syringes which follow the suit for curative injections. Plastics are finding greater use in the medical syringes than the conventional materials like glass and metal. The disposable syringes are often wrapped in the polyethylene film pouch for subsequent sterilization by gamma radiation / ethylene oxide.

Disposable syringes are available in sterile condition and due to their ready to use form and involved cost economics, they are replacing the glass syringes due to advantages such as safety from damage and crack resistance. The PP disposable syringes have various advantages over the conventional glass syringes such as crack resistance, leak proof, light weight, eco-friendly, and much more.

With the advent of AIDS, serum hepatitis and other dreaded infectious diseases, the use of disposable syringes has indeed increased in developing countries. To manufacture plastic syringes, the machinery used include injection moulding machines, set of multi cavity moulds and sterilization chamber. The disposable syringes are usually made of barrel, plunger, gasket, protector and hub.

It is important for the medical practitioners and representatives to be cautious while using these disposable syringes. The open end of the syringe may be fitted with a hypodermic needle and a nozzle to direct the flow into and out of the barrel. The disposable syringes are frequently used in the field of clinical medicine to administer injections as well as to infuse intravenous therapy into the bloodstream. In some jurisdictions, the sale of disposable syringes is prohibited or controlled (without a prescription), due to its potential use with illegal intravenous drugs. These syringes are sometimes used without a needle for orally administering liquid medicines for animals or young children, or milk to small young animals.
