It dries quickly and is water proof which bonds permanently in some way or the other. It needs to be well noted and understood that crusting is a process that lubricates and thins leather. There are different tanning methods which lead to products such as vegetable tanned leather, chrome-tanned leather, aldehyde tanned leather, brain tanned leather as well as alum leather.
