BOPP adhesive tape which is quite a recent development in the field of modern packaging. Which is rapidly replacing the cello tape due to its excellent mechanical, optical and barrier properties. It is widely accepted for the decorative, flexible packing operations and has gained a spectrum of popularity.
BOPP film is highly resistant to weather, heat, aerial oxidation and others. That is why it is used for packing purposes. The pressure sensitive self adhesive BOPP tape has various application in packaging industry. It has very good properties.
Local production of Biaxially oriented film first commenced in the country toward June 1980 in Tamil Nadu and subsequently two more plants have come on stream, one each in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The current production and market so far established for BOPP film has not kept pace with plant capacity as the plants are reportedly operating at 30 to 35% level due to various constrain The plants have been supplied by overseas manufacturers and operate both the flat tenter and the bubble route of production. Two of the three plants which are currently operating have the lamination on their inability to produce a co-extruded heat seal coating leading to restriction in their marketability. One plant offers the full range of BOPP film in thickness ranges from 12.5 micron to 50 micron in plains and heat seal variety with one or both surface electronically treated for conversion by printing adhesive lamination and coating.
BOPP film is classified in the clear film category along with cello, PET, PP tribular and uPVC film which are popularly used by packaging industry and converters.
