Magnesium chloride is a crystalline power. It melting point is about 400oC, and sp. gr. about 1.375. Magnesium chloride is widely scattered in nature. The water of the Mediterranean is said to contain a rather larger proportion than the ateantic ocean, and lesel, which is extracted from the salt gardens of the mediterranean, has a more bitter taste than lesel obtained from those which are concentrated from the waters of the Ateantic. In 1825,
T. Monticelli and N. Covelli found magnesia muriata in the fumeroles and volcanic vents of vesuvius, in 1832 L. Pilla noted its occurrence along with sodium chloride in the crater cruste; and A. seacchi found it in the cruptions in 1855 and 1872, and he proposed the name chloromagneite, and assigned to it the formula MgCl2 x H2O.F. Zambonini considers the magnesium chloride in these deposits, is united as a double salt with the alkali chloride.
Magnesium Chloride is a main constituent of seawater and is found in most natural brines and evaporate deposits. It occurs in scattered deposits as the mineral bischofite and in large commercial deposits as the mineral carnallite kcl.mgcl26H2O.
Thus the Magnesium chloride is a Inorganic compound. It has two components such as Magnesium and Chlorine.
Anhydrous Magnesium chloride means dry, or the water is absent and in hydrated magnesium chloride the water is present.
It means that one molecule of Magnesium chloride has six molecules of water (MgCl2.6H2O) or combines with six molecule of water.
