Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was established in 1945 as Mahindra & Mohammed and was renamed Mahindra & Mahindra in 1948 following the partition of India. The company initially operated as a manufacturer of general-purpose utility vehicles and assembled CKD jeeps in 1949. Over time, M&M expanded into light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and agricultural tractors and also developed capabilities in manufacturing army vehicles.
The company subsequently expanded its international operations through plants and business establishments in China, the United Kingdom, the USA, Italy, South Africa and other locations. It also established partnerships with international companies and exported its products to several countries.
